Individual FAQs

Here are some questions and answers you may have about The Retirement Planning Concierge Program:

Will I be able to retire?

Yes. The question is on what income and for how long. We do a full financial plan to see if you can retire and maintain the kind of lifestyle you desire. We include your sources of income, anticipated living expenses, and debt evaluation. We take into consideration your tolerance for risk in the market, inflation, your potential longevity. We develop a plan to prepare you for retirement.

How much do I need to save to retire comfortably?

That is the million- dollar question! It depends on how much you spend and how long you’re going to live. We help you to evaluate if you are saving enough and look at what your overall-savings needs to be when you retire in order to reach your goals.

How should I invest during retirement?

During retirement, you have to be smart about the amount of risk you take. In general, we have to be more conservative. However, you also have to make your money grow in order to beat inflation. We use investment strategies to help you protect the money that you need to live on in the shorter term, and grow the money that you don’t need until later. We are excited to show you how that all works.

What is a bucket list?

A bucket list is your list of goals and plans you have for your life. Our first goal is to meet your needs and cover your living expenses. After that, we help you take a look at what goals are most important to you and then help you design your money around your life to pursue those goals. Often these goals include travel but sometimes it is spending time with grandkids, writing a book, building a shop, or buying a bass boat.

How and when should I draw my Social Security?

This is an excellent question. It is really different for everyone. We have a Registered Social Security Analyst on staff that will run a full analysis and answer any questions you have about how to maximize your retirement benefit and get the most back.

Do I need Long Term Care?

Maybe. Medicare does not cover long term care costs for assisted living, nursing home, or home health. There are lots of options about how to make long term heath insurance coverage work for you and your family so that you are not left holding the bag if you didn’t use it. We help you to customize a plan that is most cost effective for you.

How can I plan for Healthcare in retirement?

There are many options for healthcare insurance if you are under age 65. There are Healthcare Marketplace plans, Small group plans (requiring only two people), short-term plans, and faith-based Medi-share plans. We provide side-by-side comparisons of all of your options so that you can make and informed decision and choose what is best for you.

How much life insurance will I need?

That depends. People use life insurance for different reasons (to cover taxes on their estate, to provide a supplemental income to a Single Life pension payout decision, to pay for funeral expenses, to leave an inheritance, etc.) So, we help you discover how you can best utilize life insurance to help meet your goals in the most cost-effective way.

How will my family be taken care of if something happens to me?

That is one of the great things about The Retirement Planning Concierge. We realize that often the finances are managed by one person. If something happens, the financial matters can be very scary for the other spouse to work through. If something happens to you, we will help your spouse with making the adjustments necessary and sorting through the decisions about money.

I’m afraid to fill out the paperwork to retire for fear of filling it out incorrectly and the decisions are final, can you help?

I don’t understand how to file for Medicare benefits, can you help?

Our Medicare Specialist can help walk you through your benefits and provide you with the information you need to make the most cost-effective decisions.

I was handed a piece of paper with directions on what to do to retire. Who can I contact to guide me through the mountain of paperwork?

It is unfortunate that most employees are just given a checklist of things to do and paperwork to fill out. However, that is exactly what our Retirement Planning Concierge has helped hundreds of people do. We walk you through all the paperwork. Our team of professionals work together to get all the answers you need, so that you can be confident that you are making informed decisions that are best for you.

How does my 401k work toward my retirement?

Your 401k is a great way to save and invest for retirement. It is used to supplement other income streams when you retire. Social Security typically provides 1/3 to 1/2 of your income during retirement. 401k’s, pensions, part-time work, and real estate rental income are other typical income sources.

How will my pension work?

You have many choices about how to access your pension when you retire. You typically have a lumpsum option, and various Single and Joint Survivor options. We will help you to understand your choices so that you can make a decision that you feel is best for you.

What is the cost to participate in The Retirement Planning Concierge Program?

We charge a flat fee for pre-retirement planning up to several years before you retire. If you plan to retire within 6 months and we will be managing your investments after you retire, we will credit back the pre-retirement planning fee to you. Our overall fees are typically less than you pay for a retail mutual fund, which can potentially save the average investor as much as 30%.

Will you continue to work with me after I retire?

Absolutely! Our goal is to help you prepare for a successful retirement and then assist you with the retirement process for the rest of your life. We help you to rollover your 401k’s and pensions, develop an income plan to minimize taxes, and invest using our unique bucketing system to protect the assets you need to live on in the shorter term, while striving for growth with longer term investments.

Can you assist me with any tax related concerns related to retirement including stock options, taxation of pensions and social security?

Certainly! Our CPA will meet with you when you onboard with us. We will discuss tax related concerns and come up with a game plan to minimize taxes on your IRA’s and Social Security and answer any questions you have about stock options.

Our team includes Financial Planners, Wealth Advisors, CPA’s, Registered Social Security Analyst, Health and Medicare Insurance Specialist, and Estate Planning Attorneys all working together in tandem to help you answer all the questions you have regarding retirement and assist you with making decisions that are best suited to your retirement goals.
