FABULOUS & FIFTY, REFLECTING ON PART 1, DREAMING FOR PART 2

This year is a big milestone for me and my husband: we both turn fifty. There’s something about the decade birthdays—fifty in particular— that make us look at life more closely. Reflecting on the past fifty years and choosing the direction for the second half of my life has been a helpful exercise. In honor of this milestone birthday, I decided to do fifty new things as kind of a way to break out of old ruts. Many items on my list are just for fun and adventure: travel to a new destination, eat in new places, take a class, pick up a new hobby. The others on the list all center around spending more time on the important relationships in my life; making memories with friends and family, giving back to those around me and making my health a priority all made the list.

As financial planners and investment professionals, my husband and I have already done a lot of financial planning ourselves.  However, fifty is somehow the magic age that we begin to see folks come into our office and really want to take a serious look at their financial picture. They too are taking the trip down reflection road and planning for the second half of their journey and want to make sure they have plenty of money to do it.  Our signature financial planning program called “My Bucketlist: Dream. Plan. Do” is actually an inspiring and fun process that helps our clients focus on their dreams and goals.  We gather that information and then help them plan their money around their life. Whether you’ve started planning your financial future or not, fifty is a great year to look back on all you’ve accomplished so far and set yourself up to make the second half of life all you want it to be.
